PUMP FAMILY
API 610 Process Centrifugal Pump (OH2/BB type)
The refinery and petrochemical standard — built for sustained hot, pressurised, continuous duty.
Heavy-duty centerline-mounted process pump for severe service. Specified when reliability requirements, temperature or pressure exceed ANSI-class designs.
The envelope
| Recommended temperature | ≤ 400 °C |
|---|---|
| Delivered-evidence ceiling | ~450 °C (special builds) |
| Sealing | Cartridge mechanical seal per API 682 |
| Design basis | API 610 (12th ed.) |
Where it is used
- Refinery and petrochemical process duty: hot hydrocarbons, hot water, process chemicals
- Continuous operation where downtime is priced in production loss, not maintenance hours
- Duties above the ANSI envelope: sustained 175–400 °C service
Where it stops
- A specification, not a product — the data sheet is filled jointly with the manufacturer's engineering team
- Overspecifying is real money: an ANSI-class pump covers most duties that do not genuinely need API construction
- Lubrication, cooling and seal-plan choices are part of the machine definition, not accessories
API-class constructions are in documented Chinese and international service to about 450 °C; the recommendation zone ends at 400 °C.
